Adam and I are very fortunate to have three surviving grandparents, all of whom live in Utah. When we decided to make the trip out to CA for Brett's funeral, we tacked an additional 48 hours onto the trip so we could stop in Utah on the way back. In the course of a Sunday/Monday/Tuesday, we managed to fit in a lot of fun with all of our grandparents, seeing each grandparent each day we were in town. We started off with a family lunch at Grandma Wride's house where we also met up with Uncle Jeff, Aunt Lori, and as many cousins as possible. After that, we stopped by Grandpa Barnard's for a visit. Then we made our way down to Orem to welcome Grandpa Bezzant home. He had been in recovery after a recent stroke. We had the kitchen all set up with a banner, balloon, and streamers and a welcome home meal, but in classic style Grandpa opted to walk around the grounds and survey the state of the garden before making it inside.
Favorite exchange of the weekend (b/t Melinda and Gpa):
"You can take the gentleman off of the farm, but you can't take the farm out of the gentleman."
"That's the disadvantage of being a part of the landed gentry."
We were joined by siblings, cousins, Uncle Mark, and Aunt Julie. This was also my first time meeting nephew Hyrum, Greg and Michelle's sweet little redheaded babe.
Day 2, we met up with Grandma Wride, cousins Michelle and Holly, and baby Gracie to go to Mike's restaurant Buca di Beppo in SLC. We enjoyed a delicious meal, much of which Mike (cousin Holly's hubby) cooked himself.
After that, we met up for Nielsen's Frozen Custard with Grandpa Barnard. The fellow at the shop started making Gpa's usual (chocolate with nuts) before we even got out of the parking lot. He's a regular there, a tradition in which we were happy to take part.
Gpa B showed us around his place. When I remarked that this looked like a complicated piece of machinery, Gpa B climbed on and, without a word, started showing me how it works. When Adam rejoined us and asked Gpa B what he was up to, Gpa B replied, "Just showin' off." He is one strong fellow, which you know if you've ever had one of his awesome bear hugs.
Our final morning started with breakfast at Grandpa Bezzant's B&B. I did the cooking and made WAY too many crepes, but that's okay because there's always someone coming around to eat the leftovers while they do their laundry or visit with Gpa. I sure love this grandpa of mine.
We stopped in for one final visit with Gpa B and then Grandma Wride before heading to the airport. Love to all our wonderful grandparents and to Grammy and Papa who tended our little ones while we were away.
