Just need to decide on a look for TimePoke, a time utility, and on a blog theme for my company's blog and thought I'd get some input before going forward.

Adam, I liked the color contrast between the second blog choice (with the black background). I also liked the second option for the design of timepoke, where it displayed more information.
That said, I feel like I am not completely in the know, and thus this is a visual preference over functional preference...

I liked the first in the first category and the second in the second category. Good luck!
I prefer the first of both; they're easier on the eyes and not as cluttered, even if you do lose a little functionality.
Also, sorry we missed you guys when we visited the other week! Thanks for letting us hijack your place!
